"title": "Target-controlled infusion of propofol induces rapid hypertriglyceridemia in healthy cats.",
"abstract": "To evaluate serum triglyceride concentrations during target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol in healthy cats undergoing elective orchiectomy and to investigate the relationship between cumulative propofol dose and triglyceride concentrations. 8 healthy male cats were anesthetized using propofol administered via a TCI system targeting a plasma concentration of 7 µg/mL for 45 minutes. Blood samples were collected at baseline, after premedication, immediately after induction, and at 20 and 40 minutes of infusion for determination of serum triglyceride concentrations. Serum triglycerides increased significantly following propofol administration, with elevations detectable immediately after induction. Median concentrations were 41 mg/dL (range, 31 to 75) at baseline, 32 mg/dL (range, 20 to 99) after premedication, 128 mg/dL (range, 72 to 215) immediately after induction, 132 mg/dL (range, 106 to 227) at 20 minutes of infusion, and 143 mg/dL (range, 57 to 230) at 40 minutes of infusion. During anesthesia, 75% of the animals exceeded the reference interval for triglycerides. No significant correlation was observed between propofol cumulative doses and triglyceride concentrations. Target-controlled propofol infusion is associated with a rapid increase in serum triglyceride concentrations in cats even during short anesthetic procedures. Given the use of prolonged propofol infusions in veterinary anesthesia, these findings highlight the importance of considering potential changes in serum triglyceride concentrations, particularly in patients with underlying lipid or metabolic dy",

"title": "Doxorubicin-induced Cardiotoxicity in Dogs: A Narrative Review.",
"abstract": "Doxorubicin, an anthracycline widely used in both human and veterinary oncology, is highly effective against a variety of malignancies in dogs, including lymphomas, sarcomas and carcinomas. Despite its efficacy, doxorubicin exposure can be associated with cardiotoxicity, which may present acutely or chronically, potentially leading to severe cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure. Mechanisms underlying cardiotoxicity are multifactorial, including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, DNA damage via topoisomerase IIβ, inflammation and dysregulated cell death pathways such as apoptosis, pyroptosis and ferroptosis. In dogs, known risk factors include higher cumulative dose, breed predisposition to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, and higher body weight. Cardiac biomarkers, electrocardiography, echocardiography and other advanced imaging techniques have been employed to detect cardiac changes that can be seen also in the absence of clinical signs. However, current evidence is predominantly derived from experimental and retrospective research, highlighting the need for large prospective clinical studies to strengthen recommendations for monitoring and prevention. A deeper understanding of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in dogs is needed to identify factors influencing individual susceptibility, clarify the progression from subclinical damage to clinical cardiac dysfunction, and guide future research. Emerging approaches, including advanced echocardiography, microRNAs, proteomic biomarkers and pharmacokinetic modelling, may help improve early detection and g",

"abstract": "The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or the Agency) is announcing the issuance of four Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA or Authorization) under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) for new animal products. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Elanco US Inc. for application on or around wounds for the prevention of infestations caused by New World screwworm (Cochliomyia hominivorax; NWS) larvae (myiasis) in sheep, cattle, goats, swine, camelids, and the following captive and captured wildlife species: cervids, American bison, bighorn sheep, and Sonoran pronghorn. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Zoetis Inc. for the treatment of infestations caused by NWS (myiasis) in dogs and puppies. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Bimeda Animal Health Ltd. for the prevention of infestations caused by NWS (myiasis) in cattle. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Sergeant's Pet Care Products LLC for the treatment and prevention of infestations caused by NWS (myiasis) in dogs, puppies, cats and kittens 2 pounds of body weight or greater and 4 weeks of age and older. The Authorizations contain, among other things, conditions on the emergency use of the authorized products. The Authorizations follow the August 18, 2025, determination by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) that there is a significant potential for a public health emergency that has a significant potential to affect national security or the health and security of U.S. citizens living abroad and th",

"title": "Molecular detection of Streptococcus Sp. isolated from the mouth and nose of humans and pets.",
"abstract": "Several streptococcal species traverse the human-animal-environment interface, positioning them as particularly compelling subjects for One Health research. In contrast to strictly host-adapted pathogens, these species are observed to circulate among livestock, companion animals, aquaculture, and the broader environment, exhibiting demonstrable transmission to human populations. In this study, 200 swabs were collected from humans and animals (100 nasal and oral swabs were tested bacteriologically from individuals with respiratory infections and gastrointestinal illnesses of all genders and ages. 100 swabs were collected from pets (dogs and cats) of both genders and various ages. Various respiratory symptoms were tested to isolate and characterize the bacterial causes of respiratory infections and to identify bacteria that can infect both humans and their pets. Finally, the results were confirmed by primary culture media, the Vitk 2 system, and 16 S rRNA. The results of bacterial isolation from the human nose showed the presence of six streptococcal isolates, classified into three types: S. thoraltensis (3, 50%), followed by S. anginosus (2, 33.33%), and finally S. alactolyticus (1, 16.66%). Moreover, the results from the human mouth showed the existence of 15 streptococcal isolates, divided into four types: S. salivarius (5, 33.33%), followed by S. thoraltensis (4, 26.66%), then S. alactolyticus and S. parasanguinis (3, 20%). At the same time, the results from the dog nose showed the presence of four streptococcal isolates, classified into three types: S. anginosus (2, 50%)",
