"title": "Target-controlled infusion of propofol induces rapid hypertriglyceridemia in healthy cats.",
"abstract": "To evaluate serum triglyceride concentrations during target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol in healthy cats undergoing elective orchiectomy and to investigate the relationship between cumulative propofol dose and triglyceride concentrations. 8 healthy male cats were anesthetized using propofol administered via a TCI system targeting a plasma concentration of 7 µg/mL for 45 minutes. Blood samples were collected at baseline, after premedication, immediately after induction, and at 20 and 40 minutes of infusion for determination of serum triglyceride concentrations. Serum triglycerides increased significantly following propofol administration, with elevations detectable immediately after induction. Median concentrations were 41 mg/dL (range, 31 to 75) at baseline, 32 mg/dL (range, 20 to 99) after premedication, 128 mg/dL (range, 72 to 215) immediately after induction, 132 mg/dL (range, 106 to 227) at 20 minutes of infusion, and 143 mg/dL (range, 57 to 230) at 40 minutes of infusion. During anesthesia, 75% of the animals exceeded the reference interval for triglycerides. No significant correlation was observed between propofol cumulative doses and triglyceride concentrations. Target-controlled propofol infusion is associated with a rapid increase in serum triglyceride concentrations in cats even during short anesthetic procedures. Given the use of prolonged propofol infusions in veterinary anesthesia, these findings highlight the importance of considering potential changes in serum triglyceride concentrations, particularly in patients with underlying lipid or metabolic dy",

"abstract": "Canine leishmaniosis (CanL) has a broad clinical spectrum, with cutaneous abnormalities among its most frequent manifestations. We characterised clinical and dermatological findings in 200 stray dogs admitted to the municipal shelter of Kastamonu, Türkiye, and explored associations with Leishmania test positivity, lymphadenopathy, age, sex, sampling month and geographic origin. Blood samples were examined by thin blood-smear microscopy and a lateral-flow serological rapid test. Nine dogs (4.5%) met the study's combined definition of test positivity. Above-normal body temperature, lymph-node abnormalities and skin abnormalities were recorded in 33.5%, 16% and 15% of dogs, respectively. Abnormal skin status was significantly associated with test positivity (microscopy p<0.001; combined positivity p=0.031, OR 5.08, 95% CI 1.28-20.15; Fisher exact tests), consistent with a rank-correlation analysis. All four microscopy-positive dogs had abnormal skin (4/30), whereas rapid/combined positivity occurred in 4/30 dogs with abnormal skin and 5/170 with healthy skin. Lymph-node status differed by sex in an exploratory Mann-Whitney analysis (U=4363.50; p=0.026). Skin-health ranks differed across recorded ages (Kruskal-Wallis χ²=31.797; df=10; p<0.001) and sampling months (χ²=13.541; df=5; p=0.019), but sparse older-age strata, uneven monthly sampling and an association between month and age limited inference. The data did not support a bimodal age distribution or an autumn-winter increase in skin abnormalities. Because diagnostic and lesion-specific confirmation were limited, these fin",

"abstract": "The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or the Agency) is announcing the issuance of four Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA or Authorization) under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) for new animal products. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Elanco US Inc. for application on or around wounds for the prevention of infestations caused by New World screwworm (Cochliomyia hominivorax; NWS) larvae (myiasis) in sheep, cattle, goats, swine, camelids, and the following captive and captured wildlife species: cervids, American bison, bighorn sheep, and Sonoran pronghorn. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Zoetis Inc. for the treatment of infestations caused by NWS (myiasis) in dogs and puppies. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Bimeda Animal Health Ltd. for the prevention of infestations caused by NWS (myiasis) in cattle. FDA has issued one EUA for an animal product as requested by Sergeant's Pet Care Products LLC for the treatment and prevention of infestations caused by NWS (myiasis) in dogs, puppies, cats and kittens 2 pounds of body weight or greater and 4 weeks of age and older. The Authorizations contain, among other things, conditions on the emergency use of the authorized products. The Authorizations follow the August 18, 2025, determination by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) that there is a significant potential for a public health emergency that has a significant potential to affect national security or the health and security of U.S. citizens living abroad and th",

"title": "CRISPR/Cas12a-based dual intelligent sensors for home pet detection via personal glucose meters.",
"abstract": "Against the backdrop of iterative upgrades in pet pathogen detection technology, rapid on-site testing (POCT) has become the core technology for on-site identification of deadly pet diseases. Based on the research and development of new materials, intelligent sensors with high sensitivity, fast response, and high design flexibility have demonstrated strong application value and have become an important development direction for the next-generation technology system in the field of pet pathogen detection. Herein, we report two advanced intelligent material-integrated biosensing platforms: a DNA hydrogel-encapsulated glucose amylase-based assay (RC-HGPGA) and a magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)-based system where single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) serves as a molecular bridge to conjugate MNPs with invertase (RC-MBI). Both systems operate via a cascade reaction: recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) of target nucleic acids first activates Cas12a nuclease, which then exerts trans-cleavage activity toward the biosensing elements. Subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis generates glucose, whose concentration is quantifiable using a commercial personal glucose meter (PGM). All experimental procedures were conducted at a constant temperature of 37 °C, eliminating the need for complex thermal cycling equipment. Our findings demonstrate that the RC-HGPGA and RC-MBI platforms achieve ultra-sensitive detection of feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) and canine distemper virus (CDV)-two clinically significant pet viruses-with limits of detection (LODs) as low as 10° copies/μL and 101 copies/μL, respecti",

"abstract": "Several streptococcal species traverse the human-animal-environment interface, positioning them as particularly compelling subjects for One Health research. In contrast to strictly host-adapted pathogens, these species are observed to circulate among livestock, companion animals, aquaculture, and the broader environment, exhibiting demonstrable transmission to human populations. In this study, 200 swabs were collected from humans and animals (100 nasal and oral swabs were tested bacteriologically from individuals with respiratory infections and gastrointestinal illnesses of all genders and ages. 100 swabs were collected from pets (dogs and cats) of both genders and various ages. Various respiratory symptoms were tested to isolate and characterize the bacterial causes of respiratory infections and to identify bacteria that can infect both humans and their pets. Finally, the results were confirmed by primary culture media, the Vitk 2 system, and 16 S rRNA. The results of bacterial isolation from the human nose showed the presence of six streptococcal isolates, classified into three types: S. thoraltensis (3, 50%), followed by S. anginosus (2, 33.33%), and finally S. alactolyticus (1, 16.66%). Moreover, the results from the human mouth showed the existence of 15 streptococcal isolates, divided into four types: S. salivarius (5, 33.33%), followed by S. thoraltensis (4, 26.66%), then S. alactolyticus and S. parasanguinis (3, 20%). At the same time, the results from the dog nose showed the presence of four streptococcal isolates, classified into three types: S. anginosus (2, 50%)",
